♪ Topic 22: What advice would you give to a tourist in your country? Day 4.
Before we move into this week’s topic, let’s have a brief chat with Jing.
Let’s do it.
Jing, we’d like to hear about your high school days.
How did you get to school?
I go(→went) to school by bus every day. It takes(→took) about 20 minutes.
Oh, okay.
Was it a school bus that you took?
No. We don’t(→ didn’t) actually have (a) school bus. We take(→took) public transportation (to) go to school every day.
Did you eat lunch at school?
Since we don’t(→didn’t) have (a) school restaurant, we eat(→ate) at restaurants nearby school, or some of my classmates go(→went) to home to eat lunch if their house was nearby. But for me, I always prepare(d) my own lunch box.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Was it a cold lunch?
Yeah. It’s(→It was a) cold lunch. So, I had to build a good relationship with the restaurant near my school, so I could use their microwave.
Wow!
What about during the breaks between classes? What did you do during breaks?
So, we have(had) (a) very short break in between the class(es), like, 10 to 15 minutes. So, I always go(→went) to (the) toilet or have(had) some fresh air in(→on) the balcony of the class (room) or prepare(d) for my next lesson. And also, every day around 10:00 a.m., there will be(→was) a class massage lesson for everyone.
Massage lesson?
Yes.
Eye massage.
Eye massage.
Yes. To relax our eyes after (a) long time study(ing).
Wow!
Each student is(→was) massaging his or her own eyes.
Yes. Exactly.
I see. Oh, that’s so interesting.
Wow. I’ve never heard of that before.
Was it helpful?
Yes. It’s(→It was) very helpful. And then it really help(ed) us, like, to refresh our eyes, and we can(→could) see our textbook(s) more clearly.
Ha, ha, ha.
I would like to learn that.
And maybe you can teach us.
Yes. Definitely. I will teach you later.
Great.
What time did you arrive at school?
I arrive(d) at school every day (at) 6:00 a..
Oh, it’s(it was) so early.
Yeah. We had morning exercises for the whole school(‘s) students.
Morning exercises?
Yes. We will move(d) and warm(ed) up our body(→ bodies) before preparing for the whole day(‘s) lesson(s).
So, your school has(→had) a lot of programs to take care of your bodies, too.
Yes. Exactly. Because we sit(→sat) in the classroom for a really long time, and our body(→bodies) gets(→got) tired. And especially during high school, we’re still growing. So, the school really took care of us and wanted us to be good at studying and be healthy.
