このコーナーでは、英語のルールや単語など、毎回一つのトピックを取り上げて、詳しく見ていきます。今回は、 誰々に〜を〜するの二通りの表現について説明します。
give、teach、buyなどの動詞の後には、誰々に〜をの順番で、二つの目的語を置くことができることを学びましたね。この場合、動詞の直後に、誰々にを置いています。しかし、実は、誰々に〜を〜するは、 別の言い方もできます。それは、動詞の直後に、「〜を先に置き、その後に、to〜を置く方法です。この2つの形を聞き比べてみましょう。
1). 私の父は私にこのカバンをくれました。という意味の文です。まずは、動詞の直後が、「私に、プラス、このカバンを。」の語順の文を聞いてください。
My father gave me this bag.
動詞 gave の後が誰々にの me 何々をの this bag の順番でしたね。次は動詞の直後に何々をを置いて、その後に誰々にを置く形です。例文を聞いてください。
My father gave this bag to me.
この形の場合、 meの前に to を置いていたことがわかりましたか？
もう一つ別の動詞を使った例です
2). エマは彼女の妹に英語を教えていますという意味の英文です。二通りの言い方を teaches の後の語順に気をつけ続けて聞いてください。
Emma teaches her sister English.
Emma teaches English to her sister.
最初の文では teachesの後がher sister、Englishの語順。2番目の文では teaches の後が English to her sisterとなっていましたね。
動詞によってはtoではなくforを使うものがあります。例えば buy やmake などです。これについてはテキストで例文を確認してください。

動詞の後に2つの目的語を人に物をの順で続ける文は疑問文にすることもできます。疑問文にする場合も動詞
後の語順は人に物をになります。

目的語のうち、人にものをのものをについて尋ねる場合、疑問詞 whatを文の最初に置き あとは普通の疑問文の形を続けます。人ににあたる目的語の you は動詞の直後に置きます。

1). あなたは友達と共通の友達のエリの誕生日のパーティーに参加する予定です。友達とそのことについて話します。友達が話題を切り出すので、Yeah と言った後で何をあげるつもりか尋ねましょう。
(You and a friend plan to attend a birthday party for a mutual friend, Eli. You and your friend talk about it. Your friend broaches the subject, so you say yeah and then ask her what she is going to give you.)
