ストーリーでは、斉藤先生がグレイの星が困っていることはわかったけど、より具体的な話を聞くために、How so? と言っています。
普段の会話ではこんな感じで使いますよ。

1). Traveling makes him hungry.
旅行は彼を空腹にさせます。
動詞 make の後に「人などを」+ 「何々の状態に」の順で言葉を続けると、主語が人などを何々にさせるということができます。今日のキーセンテンスの場合、makes の後に人をにあたる him、続いて何々の状態ににあたるhungry を置いてmakes him hungry、彼を空腹にさせるという意味になっています。

ホラー映画を見ることは私を怖くさせます。
