このコーナーでは英語のルールや単語など毎回一つのトピックを取り上げて詳しく見ていきます。
今回は before の使い方について説明します。一つの単語で、名詞や動詞など、複数の使い方ができるものがあります。beforeもその一つです。beforeの二つの使い方について確認しましょう。
1). beforeは前置詞として使うことができます。前置詞とは、名詞と一緒に使うものでしたね。beforeプラス名詞の形で、何々の前にという意味になります。
例文です。
I usually take a shower before breakfast.
私は普通、朝食前にシャワーを浴びます。 という意味です。before breakfast で、朝食前にという意味になります。

2). before は、 接続詞として使うことができます。接続詞の場合 beforeの後に主語プラス動詞の形を続けます。before + 主語 ? 動詞で、主語が〜する前に、〜した前に」という意味になります。例文です

私は普通学校に行く前に私の犬を散歩させます。
beforeの後に、I goと主語 動詞を続けています。
