Let’s look at that sentence again. Here it is. People here are very prepared to dispose of waste by themselves.
ここの人々は廃棄物を彼ら自身で処理する心構えがしっかりできているというような訳でしたよね。
prepareって言われると準備するって言った役をすぐ考えつくので、一瞬、「うっ」となりますよね。
Tom:
The best way to think about prepare is to make something ready to be used or make someone ready or able to do something in the future.
Maejima:
prepareは何かを使われる状態にする、あるいは誰かを何かできるようにするというイメージなんですね。
Tom:
Right, so that’s why we say prepare food, to make it ready to be used, or eaten in this case. When you use prepare with a person, you could say prepare students for a test.
