Christy:
Sam, what were you doing during that earthquake? You were working at a newspaper company at the time, right?
Sam:
Yes, I was stunned to learn about the distraction and the fires. I was the business editor. So I was summarizing the economic impact of the disaster for the paper. We sent reporters to Kobe to write stories and when they were done some of them decided to say there, and do volunteer work at the shelters.
Christy:
That must have been such a tragic situation, but I’m glad volunteers were there to help.
Sam:
Yeah, it was so heartbreaking to see the distraction.

サム
はい、地震と火災のことを知って唖然としました。 私はビジネス担当の編集者でした。 だから、震災の経済的影響を新聞にまとめていました。 記者を神戸に派遣して記事を書かせ、そのうちの何人かは神戸に滞在して避難所でボランティア活動をすることにしました。
