Russia begins to use North Korean troops in fighting, Ukrainian military says
The Ukrainian military says Russia has begun to use North Korean soldiers in assault operations in the western Russian region of Kursk, where Ukrainian military forces are engaged in a cross-border offensive.
ウクライナ軍によると、ロシアは、ウクライナ軍が国境を越えて攻勢をかけているロシア西部クルスク地方での攻撃作戦に、北朝鮮兵士を使い始めたという。
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine presented the information on Saturday. It added that estimated losses on the Russian and North Korean side amount to about 200 servicemen.
The breakdown of the casualties is not clear.
It has been pointed out that about 11,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed in Kursk, but the activities they are involved in remain unknown.
The Ukrainian General Staff says that the North Korean troops are joining the battle as part of Russia’s airborne unit and other forces. It says Ukraine’s military is using drones and other means to respond.
The Ukrainian General Staff also says that the language barrier remains a difficult obstacle in command, control and coordination.
It says the friendly fire resulted in the deaths of personnel in the Russian forces because of this problem.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday in a video posted on social media that Ukraine already has preliminary data that the Russians have begun to use North Korean soldiers in their assaults, and their number is significant.
He said the Russians include them in combined units and use them in operations in the Kursk region.
