Syria’s interim government leader vows to build inclusive society
The head of a group leading Syria’s interim government has stressed his intention to build an inclusive society, including ethnic minority Kurdish people.
シリアの暫定政府を率いるグループのリーダーは、少数民族クルド人を含む包括的な社会を構築する意向を強調した。
Sunday marks one week since the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad collapsed.
Abu Mohammed al-Golani, the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham rebel group which is also known as the HTS, said on social media that Syrians will live together with each of them exercising their rights under the law.
He went on to say that Kurdish people will no longer be treated unfairly.
The HTS has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations and others.
Golani’s remarks apparently show his group’s conciliatory stance toward the international community.
On Saturday, diplomats from Arab nations, Turkey, the United States and other countries gathered to discuss the situation in Syria.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the participants agreed to call on Syria’s new government to respect the rights of minorities.
On the same day, Golani stressed that Syria has no intention of fighting Israel.
He told Middle Eastern media that the top priority is reconstruction and stability, and not becoming involved in conflicts leading to further destruction.
Israeli forces have continued airstrikes in Syria. They say their actions are aimed at preventing weapons stockpiles held by the Assad regime from falling into the hands of terrorists.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 75 airstrikes had taken place so far as of Sunday.
