Let’s get started with Day 10 for the month of December. Hi everyone, I’m Steve Soresi. And here’s our conversation partner, around the Caribbean.
Hi everyone, I’m Kerry. Let’s have a conversation in Jamaica.
And let’s finish up this month’s lesson with this.
-Around the Caribbean.
I want karaoke around the Caribbean.
(You are in Jamaica. This time, we will talk about the traditional festival, John Canoe, which is held in the Caribbean during the Christmas season. We will talk about this as the theme.)
I saw the pictures. There’s colorful costumes and dancing.
Imagine this. A local group of primary school children is practicing for the John Canoe Festival.
(Jamaican elementary school children practice their festivities and john canoeing.)
Just meet me and the children and help us to take some pictures for social media.
(Visit the practice site and help take group photos.)
Are you on social media too? Let’s also chat about social media.
(Let’s also talk about social networking with Kelly.)
Did you imagine the situation?
(Now let’s respond to Kelly’s English question in English during the pause.)
Ready, start.
1. Everyone. We have a visitor! Let’s give a warm Jamaican welcome to our guest. Happy holidays!
Time’s up.
How many times did you reply?
So, Carrie, when you were growing up in Jamaica, how did you celebrate Christmas?
Oh, well. When I was a child, the week before Christmas Day, for example, was a very exciting time. For children, maybe the main kind of event is on Christmas Eve, on the night of Christmas Eve. We go out on the town and the event is called Grand Market. All the stores are open all night and there are lots of street vendors and it’s just a fun night for the children.
I see.
