ストーリーに出てきた言葉やフレーズを一つ取り上げて、クリスとダイアナにその使い方を教えてもらいましょう。今日取り上げるのは Good boy. いい子だね
という意味です。普通動物に対して使います。メスの場合は Good girl. と言います。性別がわからないときには例えば犬の場合 Good dogでもOKです。アルフィは宇宙生物ですが、犬っぽいのでたかしはグッドボーイと言っていましたね。
小さな子供を褒めるときにも、Good boy. ということがあります。
でも、本当に小さい子供だけなので、使うときは注意してください。
年頃の子に使うと、子供扱いしないで!と言われてしまいますよ。
(But be careful when using it, as it is really only for small children.
If you use it on a child of your age, don’t treat them like a child! They will say, “Don’t treat me like a child!)

呼ぶという意味の動詞、callの後に、人などを〜との順で言葉を続けると、人などを〜と呼ぶということができます。今日のキーセンテンスの場合、callの後に、人などにあたるhim、 続いて、何々とにあたるアルフィーを置いています。
それでは、他の例文も見てみましょう。

私の名前はミコトですが、私のことをミコと呼んでください。
自己紹介のときによく使う文の形です。
callの直後のmeのことをミコと呼ぶという文になっています。次です。

私の弟の名前はヒロアキですが、私は彼をヒロと呼びます。
callの直後のhimのことをヒロと呼ぶという文になっています。次です。
3). My brother named our cat tiger.
私の弟は私たちの子猫をタイガーと名付けました。
name は 名付けるという意味で人などを何々との順で言葉を続けられる動詞です。
namedの直後のour kittenのことをtigerと名付けたという文になっています
