私は小さい頃から、イマジネーションが重要だと教えられました。例えば、本を読んでいると、子供の頃は差し絵が多いけど、だんだん文字だけになってきますよね。(I was taught from a young age that imagination is important. For example, when I read a book, there are many inserted pictures when I was a child, but gradually it becomes only text.)
それで、おじいちゃんに、この人はどんな服を着ているの?って聞いたときに、Use your imagination!と言われたのを覚えています。
僕も結構若い頃から言われていました。小学校のとき、Creative Writingといって、短いストーリーを毎週必ず書いていたんですが、何について書けばいいか分からなかった時はよく先生に Use your imagination.と言われました。
ストーリーでもアインシュタインが Imagination is more important than knowledge. 想像力は知識よりも重要です」と言っていましたね。知識はもちろん大事ですが、知識と知識を結びつける想像力こそが最も大切だと私も思います。
