厳しい時もあったんですけど、生徒たちのやりたいことを一番に考えてくれるのがすごくかっこよかったですね。生徒たち皆がファーストネームのジョーで呼んでいました。親しみを込めてファーストネームで呼んでいたのですね。

I am a real person, not so much who I want to be.

Yes, I do. An anime character. I wanted to be like Sakura, the main character in the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. I wanted to be like Sakura, the main character in the anime “Cardcaptor Sakura”. A very nice girl with many friends, who could do housework and sports and help her father. Sakura used to do inline skating, and I wanted to be like her, so I did skating.

何々ということをあなたは知っていましたか？と聞くには Did you know that 何々を使います。that のあとは、主語+動詞の形を続けます。
Did you know と過去形の did を使って質問していますが、that のあとの動詞は内容によって現在形または過去形のどちらでも置くことができます。接続詞 that は省略できます。それでは他の例文も見てみましょう。

1). Did you know that there are three ice cream shops in the mall?
そのショッピングモールにアイスクリーム店が3つあることをあなたは知っていましたか？
話では、アイスクリーム店が3つあることがわかっているので、that のあとの動詞は are と現在形を使っています。
2). Did you know Ken likes drawing pictures?
健が絵を描くのが好きなことをあなたは知っていましたか？
接続詞 that を省略しています。
3). Did you know that a polar bear’s skin is black?
ホッキョクグマの皮膚が黒いことをあなたは知っていましたか？
事実について知っていたかを聞くときは、that のあとの動詞は普通現在形にします。
