hype 「誇大宣伝（広告）」「（人々の）興奮、熱狂、注目度、話題性」
かつてはネガティブ、最近では、注目度、話題性、ポジティブな印象を与える言葉としても使われています。
使われ方がちょっとずつ変わっているのは、まさに現代英語の単語ですね

Yeah. You could say that. I think it’s taken on a more positive meaning since the rise of social media and influencers.(はい、そうとも言えます。ソーシャルメディアやインフルエンサーの台頭以来、よりポジティブな意味合いを持つようになったと思います。)
例えば、 build hype 「話題性を作る、盛り上げる」
live up to the hype「騒がれているだけのことはある」
electric vehicle hype, or EV hype 「EVの盛り上がり」

So, Sayuri．Have you ever been to a motor show?
Sayuri:
Yes, I used to cover the auto industry as a reporter about 20 years ago and l also covered the Tokyo motor show at that time, Japanese cars dominated the global car market, so the Tokyo motor show was very popular and attracted lots of car makers and visitors from around the world. Now, it seems like the world’s attention has shifted to the motor shows in Beijing and Shanghai. Anyway, you can learn a lot about new models and new technologies at those motor shows. So, Tom, what kind of card do you want to drive and EV or hybrid?
Tom:

Sayuri:
EVs are good, but they’re still not very popular in Japan. There are not many places where you can charge EVs. So I feel more comfortable with driving hybrid cards. But I’m also keen to travel with self-driving cars in the future. Tom:
Yeah, me too. How about you Naomi?
Naomi:
Oh me? Um, I rather go with hybrid cars maybe.
Tom:
Okay.
Naomi:
Since I often drive long distances for going riding club to ride horses.
Sayuri:
Wow.
Naomi:
So maybe for now. I choose hybrid cars.
Tom:
Okay. Yeah, interesting. Well, you have a very good uh, idea of why you want that type of car. I think you’ve thought about it very carefully.
