Multiple media reports say Claudia Sheinbaum is on course to become Mexico’s first female president. A preliminary vote count shows that she secured more than 50 percent of the ballots in Sunday’s election.
複数のメディアが、クラウディア・シャインバウムがメキシコ初の女性大統領になりそうだと報じている。開票速報によれば、彼女は日曜日の選挙で50％以上の得票率を確保したという。
Sheinbaum, a former Mexico City mayor from the ruling leftist party Morena, had about 58 percent of the vote in the preliminary results released by Mexico’s National Electoral Institute.
シェインバウム氏は、与党左派政党モレーナの前メキシコ・シティ市長で、メキシコの国立選挙院が発表した暫定結果では、約58％の得票率であった。
She is more than 25 percentage points ahead of her closest rival Xochitl Galvez, a former senator and candidate for the opposition coalition.

The election was effectively a contest between the two candidates.

Morena declared Sheinbaum the winner of the race.

Sheinbaum has been supported by incumbent President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who has maintained high approval ratings.

During the election campaign, she called for continuing Lopez Obrador’s social welfare and security policies.
