日本の山本理顕がプリツカー建築賞を受賞

Japanese architect Yamamoto Riken received the Pritzker Architecture Prize at an award ceremony in Chicago on Saturday.
日本の建築家、山本理顕氏が土曜日にシカゴで行われた授賞式でプリツカー建築賞を受賞した。
The award is known as the Nobel Prize for architects.
この賞は建築家にとってのノーベル賞として知られている。
After receiving the gold medal, Yamamoto said he is very happy and proud to be a “member of the Pritzker family.”
金賞を受賞した山本氏は、「プリツカー・ファミリーの一員 」であることをとても嬉しく誇りに思うと語った。
Yamamoto, who is 79, designed the Yokosuka Museum of Art in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, and “The Circle”, a complex in Zurich, Switzerland.
79歳の山本は、東京の南、神奈川県にある横須賀美術館とスイスのチューリッヒにある複合施設「ザ・サークル」を設計した。
Yamamoto uses glass for outer walls to make the interior visible and incorporate open space into buildings.
山本は外壁にガラスを使い、内部を見えるようにしたり、オープンスペースを建物に取り入れたりしている。
The Hyatt Foundation, which sponsors the award, said his buildings attract people and multiply opportunities for them to meet spontaneously.
この賞のスポンサーであるハイアット財団は、彼の建物は人々を魅了し、人々が自発的に出会う機会を増やすと述べている。
Yamamoto said he was almost moved to tears to receive recognition for his past work.
山本氏は、これまでの仕事が評価され、涙が出そうになったと語った。
He added that he wants to continue designing buildings and the environment surrounding them as well.
そして、これからも建物とそれを取り巻く環境をデザインしていきたいと付け加えた。
Yamamoto is the ninth Japanese architect to receive the prize. Isozaki Arata won the award in 2019.
日本人建築家の受賞は山本氏で9人目。2019年には磯崎新が受賞している。
