Indeed. Today, we’re going to use a phrase that actually appeared twice in today’s story.
pass on
今回のニュースで2回登場した pass on を使った英作文ですね。この pass onですが、引き継ぐ、伝えるという意味を持っています。
That’s right. The basic pattern is pretty simple. “pass on” plus something plus “to the person receiving the thing”.
パターンとしては pass on プラスその引き継ぐ何か プラス to 誰々、
誰々というのは、その何かを引き継ぐ人ですね。結構シンプルですよね。
Tom:
Yes, the first example from today’s story was “The event is aimed at passing on Japanese songs and culture to younger generations”.
ニュース本文で pass on が最初に使われていた文は、そのイベントは日本の歌と文化を若い世代に引き継ぐことを目的としているというものでしたよね。これ伝えるものだったりことを pass on の後ろに入れるんでしたよね。
Tom:
In most cases, yes. But you can put the thing between the word pass and on, if you want to. But there is one rule that you can’t break. Uh, you have to put worlds like it, and them, between pass on.
受け渡すものを具体的に示す場合 passed on の間に入れることもあるし pass onの後に入れることもあります。ただし it とか them などの代名詞は必ずpass it on to 誰々」のように passed onの間に入れなければなりません。
Tom:
