The Atlantic magazine has published the full text of messages about detailed military plans by senior members of the Trump administration in a chat group to which its editor-in-chief was inadvertently invited.
The US publication reported earlier this week that President Donald Trump’s national security team had shared details about a March 15 military operation targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen on the commercial messaging app, Signal.
Trump has claimed that no classified information was discussed, and indicated he will not hold National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who built the chat chain, or any other officials involved, accountable.
The Atlantic ran a new article on Wednesday disclosing the actual postings by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accompanied by screenshots, before the attacks on Houthis began.
They show the planned timeline of the operation, and include references to attacks by F-18s, believed to indicate FA-18 fighter jets, bombs dropped by MQ-9 strike drones and the launch of sea-based Tomahawk missiles.
The article says if such information about “what was meant to be a surprise attack” had been received by someone hostile to US interests, or even just indiscreet on social media, “the consequences for American pilots could have been catastrophic.”
