CIA posts videos urging Chinese officials to leak secrets

The CIA has rolled out videos aimed at encouraging Chinese officials to leak internal information of the Chinese Communist Party.
The US agency released two Chinese-language videos on social media on Thursday.
One of the videos is a two-and-a-half-minute drama about a fictional senior CCP official, who has risen within the party but faces the risk of being ousted.
He tries to reach out to the CIA in a desperate move to protect his family. The video ends with web contact details for the agency.
The agency is appealing for internal information about senior CCP officials as well as national security, trade, foreign policy, and advanced technologies.
The CIA says it will secure the safety of informants.
In a post on social media, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said, “One of the primary roles of the CIA is to collect intelligence…by recruiting assets that can help us steal secrets.”
The New York Times reports that Ratcliffe told CIA officers last month that China is “atop the agency’s priority list.” The paper says the CIA is putting increasing emphasis on intelligence collection about China.

アメリカ中央情報局（CIA）は、中国共産党の内部情報を漏洩させるよう中国の当局者に促すことを目的とした動画を公開しました。
米国の諜報機関であるCIAは、木曜日に中国語の動画2本をSNS上で発表しました。
そのうちの1本は2分半のドラマ形式で、党内で出世した架空の中国共産党の高官が、失脚のリスクに直面し、家族を守るためにCIAに接触しようとするという内容です。動画の最後には、CIAのウェブ連絡先情報が表示されます。
CIAは、中国共産党高官に関する内部情報のほか、国家安全保障、貿易、外交政策、先端技術についての情報提供を呼びかけています。
同機関は、情報提供者の安全を守ると述べています。
SNS上の投稿で、CIAのジョン・ラトクリフ長官は「CIAの主な任務の一つは情報収集であり、それを実現するには協力者をリクルートして機密を盗むことが必要だ」と述べました。
ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙は、ラトクリフ長官が先月CIA職員に対し、「中国はCIAの最優先課題である」と述べたと報じています。記事によると、CIAは中国に関する情報収集の強化に力を入れているとのことです。
