大門さんこのPFASと綴るPFASっていうのは何ですか？
PFASというのはですね、人工的に作られた有機不素化合物なんですね。1万種類以上の物質があって一部の有害性が指摘されています。このPFASが全国各地の河川水とか地下水から検出が相次いで、そのため国が全国の水道水の検出状況を調査して、その結果が初めて公表されたというのが今回のニュースです。

Well, actually no. This is pretty confusing. It’s actually a verb from the previous sentence, ‘carry out’.
Naomi:

Tom:
So what this part of the sentence is saying is that ‘as of 2024, about 40 percent of the facilities have not carried out PFAS’s inspections. So repeating all of that from the last sentence would make this one pretty long, so they’ve omitted it and just kept have not.
Noami:
あーなるほど。もう一回言い直さなくていいというところなんですね。つまり前のセンテンスの carry out が省略されているから about 40 percent have not carried out. 伸ばすとそういう形にっていうことなんですね。
Daimon:
全部ちゃんと言おうとすると長くなってしまうので省略しているということですよね
Tom:
But, but there are times where the omitted verb is the one that comes after it like you suspected. Uh, there are cases like that, so it can be really tough.
Naomi:
私が最初に勘違いしたように後ろにかかっている場合もあるから、それは結構慎重に見極めないといけないっていうことですね
Tom:
