Syrian interim authorities: 14 security personnel killed by Assad supporters
Syria’s interim authorities say 14 security personnel have been killed in an attack by supporters of the former government of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.
シリアの暫定当局によると、追放されたバッシャール・アル＝アサド大統領の前政権の支持者による攻撃で、治安要員14人が死亡した。
The authorities said on Thursday that the attack occurred in the Tartous countryside in the country’s west. They said 14 people were killed and 10 wounded.
Muslim minorities have been staging protest demonstrations in Tartous, Latakia, and other places.
The protests were triggered by an online video purportedly showing an attack on a shrine in the northern city of Aleppo. The shrine belongs to the Alawite group, a minority sect that supported the toppled Assad administration.
Officials of the interim government reportedly say it was an “old video” dating back to the period of Aleppo’s liberation earlier this month. They say the footage was apparently used to stir up strife among the Syrian people.
The interim authorities are apparently trying to respond to international calls to protect religious minorities. But they face a tough road to achieve national reconciliation while rebuilding the country.

当局の発表によると、襲撃はシリア西部のタルトゥスで発生。14人が死亡、10人が負傷したという。
タルトゥスやラタキアなどでは、イスラム教徒の少数派が抗議デモを行っている。
抗議デモの引き金となったのは、北部の都市アレッポにある神社が襲撃された様子を映したとされるオンラインビデオだった。この神社は、アサド政権を支持した少数派のアラウィー派に属する。
暫定政府の関係者によると、それは今月初めにアレッポが解放された時期にさかのぼる「古いビデオ」だという。彼らは、この映像はシリア国民の間の争いをあおるために使われたらしいと言っている。
