年末年始の旅行客で賑わう中部国際空港
Airport in central Japan hit by holiday exodus
Overseas-bound travelers are crowding an international airport in the central Japanese prefecture of Aichi, ahead of the year-end and New Year holidays.
年末年始の休暇を前に、愛知県の中部国際空港に海外からの旅行者が押し寄せている。
Airport officials say that on Friday more than 8,200 people had booked departures from the Chubu Centrair International Airport. Outbound travel is expected to peak on Saturday, with nearly 9,000 bookings.
The operator says more than 144,500 travelers have booked international flights to and from the airport from Friday through January 5. That’s about 1.3 times the number a year ago.
Officials say the spike is due to an increase in new air routes and resumptions of flight schedules following the coronavirus pandemic.
Another factor is thought to be the relatively long holiday due to this season’s calendar.
On Thursday, the airport was hit by partial delays in flights due to a Japan Airlines system failure. But operations have been normal since Friday morning.
A woman in her 40s said she is relieved that flights are operating as usual.
A man in his 40s heading for Indonesia said he took advantage of his nine-day break to book a sightseeing trip. He said he looked forward to relaxing.
The peak of arrivals is expected on January 4.

空港関係者によると、金曜日には8,200人以上が中部国際空港からの出発を予約したという。往路は土曜日にピークを迎え、9,000人近くの予約が見込まれている。
運営会社によると、金曜日から1月5日までに同空港を発着する国際線を予約した旅行者は144,500人を超えた。これは1年前の約1.3倍にあたる。
関係者によると、この急増は新規航空路線の増加や、コロナウイルスの大流行後のフライトスケジュールの再開によるものだという。
また、この季節の暦による比較的長い休暇も要因のひとつと考えられている。
木曜日、空港は日本航空のシステム障害によるフライトの一部遅延に見舞われた。しかし、金曜日の朝からは通常通りの運行となっている。
40代の女性は、通常通り運航していることに安堵していると語った。
インドネシアに向かう40代の男性は、9日間の休みを利用して観光旅行を予約したという。のんびりするのが楽しみだという。
