2 killed in Russian drone attacks on Kyiv on New Year’s Day
Russia launched New Year’s Day drone attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on the heart of the country’s capital.
ロシアは元旦、ウクライナの首都中心部への攻撃を含む、ウクライナへの無人機攻撃を開始した。
Ukraine’s air force on Wednesday said that Russia had launched 111 drones overnight across the country.
Debris from a downed drone fell on residential buildings in Kyiv, causing multiple fires.
Kyiv’s mayor said two were killed and seven injured.
The drones caused damage in central Kyiv, the home of key government facilities, including the presidential office.
Elsewhere, residents of a residential building were forced to replace shattered windows with plastic sheets to keep out the cold air.
A female resident voiced anger at Russia for making them live in fear every day and inflicting mental anguish.
Another woman said she hoped the war will end this year and that peace is restored so that the people and their children can survive.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia on social media. He posted, “Even on New Year’s Eve, Russia was only concerned with hurting Ukraine.”

ウクライナのヴォロディミル・ゼレンスキー大統領はソーシャルメディア上でロシアを非難した。彼は 「大晦日でさえ、ロシアはウクライナを傷つけることしか考えていなかった 」と投稿した。
