「say / tell / talk / speak」はどれも「話す」「言う」と訳されますが、
それぞれの文法構造・意味の焦点・使用場面が違います。
この4つを整理して理解しておくと、英会話で格段に自然になります。
4つの動詞の使い分け 早見表

1). say（内容に焦点）
「～と言う」「～を話す」
発言の内容（what was said）を強調する。

say + 内容
say to + 人
He said he was tired. 彼は疲れたと言った。
She said to me, “Good luck.” 彼女は私に「幸運を」と言った。
Please say it again. もう一度言ってください。
「何を言ったか」を伝えるときに使う。
He said me は誤り。
2). tell（相手に焦点）
「（人に）～を伝える／話す」
内容よりも**「誰に」伝えるか**を重視。

tell + 人 + 内容
tell + 人 + to + 動詞
tell + 人 + about + 名詞
He told me the truth. 彼は私に真実を話した。
She told me to wait. 彼女は私に待つように言った。
He told me about his trip. 彼は私に旅行の話をした。
「人」が直接続く。
❌ He told about the story. → ❌（about の前に人が必要）
3). talk（会話・話し合いに焦点）
「話す」「話し合う」「会話する」
＝お互いにやり取りがあるイメージ。

talk to / with + 人（人と話す）
talk about + 話題（～について話す）
We talked about the weather. 私たちは天気について話した。
I talked to my boss yesterday. 昨日上司と話しました。
Can we talk later? あとで話せる？
「双方向の会話」があるときに使う。
❌ talk は通常「一方的に言う」には使わない。
4). speak（行為・能力・言語に焦点）
「話す」「しゃべる」「演説する」「（言語を）話す」
→ よりフォーマルで、一方的な“話す行為”に焦点。

speak to / with + 人（人と話す）
speak + 言語（言語を話す）
speak about + 話題（フォーマルに～について話す）
She speaks English well. 彼女は英語を上手に話す。
I need to speak to the manager. 店長と話す必要があります。
He spoke about climate change. 彼は気候変動について演説した。
フォーマルな印象。
「言語能力」「スピーチ」などに使われる。
❌ speak は内容を直接続けられない（say に置き換える）。
