SHIZUOKA, Japan (Kyodo) — Seventeen trucks in a parking lot and a warehouse burned Wednesday at a transport company in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, local police said.
Although no injuries were reported, the police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, considering the possibility of arson.
The fire, which is believed to have started in one of the trucks, was extinguished nearly four hours after an emergency call was made at around 3:05 a.m., according to the police.
“A fuel tank lid had been removed from a burned truck, and a fueling system hose had been cut,” a male employee of the company said.
The police and the fire department conducted an on-site investigation, checking the burnt vehicles and taking photos from above using a ladder truck.
“Sounds like steel drums bouncing around continued for about an hour,” said a 74-year-old woman living in the neighborhood, adding that she felt scared when she saw the black smoke billowing up.
