Trump: US may place tariffs on countries that do not support Greenland plan

US President Donald Trump has suggested he may impose tariffs on countries that do not support his plan for the United States to control the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland.
Trump was speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday. He said he “may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security.”
The Danish and Greenlandic governments oppose Trump’s takeover plan.
The leaders of Denmark, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland issued a joint statement on January 6. It said: “Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland.”
