Opening ceremony held for Egyptian museum built with Japanese aid

People in Egypt have attended the opening ceremony for a new museum that was constructed with Japanese assistance in Giza. The city is located outside the capital Cairo.
The Grand Egyptian Museum houses more than 100,000 artifacts, including excavated treasures related to ancient dynasties. King Tutankhamun’s mask was moved to the facility from another museum in central Cairo.
Japan provided loans of about 550 million dollars through its Official Development Assistance program. The figure represents more than half the total cost. Construction began in 2012, and part of the facility was opened last year.
The ceremony took place near a pyramid on Saturday. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi described the opening ceremony as the start of a new chapter. He said his country will never forget the massive amount of support it received from Japan.
Tanaka Akihiko is the head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. He said it is wonderful that the museum has finally opened. He also said he hopes the facility will become a place that people interested in human history visit before they go to any other museum.
The museum will be open to the public starting on Tuesday.

この博物館は火曜日から一般公開される予定です。
