Thai court rules to dismiss PM Paetongtarn

Thailand’s Constitutional Court dismissed Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her position as prime minister on Friday. The court found that she had violated ethical standards in her handling of border disputes with Cambodia.
The Lower House will now move to choose a new prime minister, amid lingering tensions with Phnom Penh.
Paetongtarn got into hot water when her phone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen in June was leaked. During their discussion about the border disputes, she appeared to appease Hun Sen and to disparage a Thai Army commander.
A group of senators filed a petition with the Constitutional Court demanding her removal from office. The court suspended her premiership last month.
After the court’s decision, Paetongtarn told reporters that she humbly accepted the ruling. She also said that she wanted to reaffirm her intention to work for the country. And she insisted that her conversation with Hun Sen was aimed at benefiting the country.
The 39-year-old is the daughter of former leader Thaksin Shinawatra. She became the country’s youngest prime minister only a year ago.

タイの憲法裁判所は金曜日、パエトンターン・シナワット首相を解任した。裁判所は、彼女がカンボジアとの国境紛争への対応において倫理基準に違反したと判断した。
下院は今後、プノンペンとの緊張が続く中、新しい首相を選出することになる。
