Trump expresses disappointment with Putin

US President Donald Trump has told Britain’s public broadcaster BBC that he is disappointed but not done with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The president made the statement in an exclusive phone call with the BBC on Monday, hours after announcing plans to send more weapons to Ukraine through NATO and warning of severe tariffs if Moscow does not make a deal with Kyiv within 50 days.
In the interview, Trump reiterated his criticism against Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine. He said, “I thought we had a deal done four times and then you go home and you see he just attacked a nursing home or something in Kyiv. I said what the hell was that all about.”
A US think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, said in its assessment on Monday, “Trump is acting upon the reality that successful US efforts to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiation table require that economic instruments be coupled with Western military support.”
Meanwhile, Russia’s Tass news agency reported on Monday that the head of the Russian lower house international affairs committee criticized Trump.
Tass quoted Leonid Slutsky as saying, “If Trump really wants progress in the Ukrainian settlement, he should shake his fist at the Zelenskyy regime rather than threaten Russia with secondary sanctions.”

アメリカのドナルド・トランプ大統領は、英国の公共放送BBCに対し、ロシアのウラジーミル・プーチン大統領に失望しているが、まだ諦めてはいないと語りました。
この発言は、トランプ氏が月曜日にBBCとの独占電話インタビューの中で述べたもので、NATOを通じてウクライナにさらなる武器を送る計画を発表し、モスクワが50日以内にキエフ（ウクライナ）と合意しない場合は重大な関税を科すと警告した数時間後のことでした。
インタビューの中で、トランプ氏はロシアによるウクライナへの継続的な攻撃を再び批判しました。彼は次のように語りました。
「私はこれまで4回、合意ができたと思った。そして家に帰ってみると、彼（プーチン）がキエフの介護施設か何かを攻撃していた。『いったいこれは何なんだ？』と思ったよ。」
また、アメリカのシンクタンク「**戦争研究所（Institute for the Study of War）」は月曜日の分析で次のように述べました。
「トランプ氏は、ロシアのプーチン大統領を交渉のテーブルに引き出すためには、経済的手段と西側の軍事支援を組み合わせる必要があるという現実に基づいて行動している。」
一方で、ロシアの国営タス通信は月曜日、ロシア下院の国際問題委員会の委員長がトランプ氏を批判したと報じました。
タス通信によると、レオニード・スルツキー委員長は「トランプ氏がウクライナ問題の解決に本当に進展を望むのであれば、ロシアを二次制裁で脅すのではなく、ゼレンスキー政権に拳を振り上げるべきだ」と述べたとのことです。
