Flu spreading faster this year in Japan

Influenza is spreading in Japan with average weekly cases topping 50 per medical institution in the seven days ending November 23. That threshold was reached about a month earlier than last year.
The Japan Institute for Health Security says about 3,000 medical institutions nationwide reported total cases of about 197,000 in the same week. That’s up 35 percent from the previous seven days.
Flu cases averaged more than 30 per institution in 39 of Japan’s 47 prefectures, including Tokyo.
Three prefectures in northeastern Japan had the highest tallies. They are Miyagi with just over 89 per institution, Fukushima with around 87, and Iwate with roughly 83.
Japan health officials are urging residents to wash their hands, wear masks and consider getting vaccinated.

東京を含む全国47都道府県のうち39都道府県で、医療機関あたりの感染者数は30人を超えた。
最も多かったのは東北地方の3県で、宮城県が1機関あたり89人強、福島県が約87人、岩手県が約83人だった。
厚生当局は、手洗いやマスク着用を行い、予防接種を検討するよう住民に呼びかけている。
