福井県の大学に2025年度から国内初の恐竜学部が開設されるというニュースです。

Unravel と ravel が同じ意味なんですか？
Yes, yes.
なんで2個あるんだ？
So, un-, like you said, normally means “the opposite of”, right? So, you’d think that two would be opposites. Untie a shoelace and tie a shoelace are opposites. However, in some rare cases, un- can mean “completely”. So, unravel is one of those cases. The un- is just for emphasis, not reversing the meaning.

面白いですよね。 はい。 un というパーツがつくと unknown 不明ののように逆の意味になると思いきや、とてもレアなケースで un というのはここでは完全にという意味で強調の意味なんですね。そして unravel がその典型的なケースだということなんですね。
Mhm. Interestingly, unravel, the un- version, is much, much more common than ravel. I don’t think I’ve ever heard ravel in conversation, ever.
うーん。同じ意味を持つ ravel よりも unravel の方が一般的なんですね。
