BBC News: BBC News: Why Australia’s mushroom murderer may now die in prison
Australia’s mushroom murderer was hoping her conviction would be quashed. Now she faces the prospect of dying in prison. Here’s what we know.
Erin Patterson killed three of her relatives after serving them a meal containing toxic death cap mushrooms. She was sentenced to life in prison last year.
She appealed, challenging some of the evidence that was and wasn’t allowed in the trial, as well as her cross-examination and the way the jury was held during deliberations.
The judges dismissed Patterson’s appeal. Her conviction stands. They did, however, agree with the prosecution’s appeal that her life sentence with a parole period after 33 years was wrong.
The judges said her crimes were extraordinarily cold and calculated, so shocking she should never be allowed freedom.
Her only legal option now is to ask Australia’s High Court to look at her case.

She faces the prospect of dying in prison.

2). have one’s conviction quashed

Her conviction stands.
